CLEVER IDEAS

Onions Clean Your Grill - All you need to clean a grill is half an onion and a form (the longer, the better). While the grill is very, very hot, spear the top of the onion (cut horizontally) with the form and scrub the grill with the cut side to remove the grime.

Beat Crime on Craigslist - Lieutenant Raymond Foster, a law-envorcement consultant and 24-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, now retired, said "Whether you're selling or buying on Craigslist, meet in the lobby or parking lot of a local police station. Many police agencies are actually setting aside an area of their lobby and/or parking lot for these types of transactions." Call your police department to see if this is an option for you. BE SAFE!

Protect Your Password - when signing up for a website, you'll better protect your account and identity if you always use the same 'wrong' answers instead of your mother's maiden name and your birthplace.

Cough Season: Mix about five parts honey to one part instant coffee crystals. Drinkone tablespoon of the mixture in about seven ounces of water every eight hours, as needed. In a recent study, a honey/coffee remedy reduced cough frequency by 93% compared with 20% for a steroid and little from a cough suppressant.

Can't Find Your Readers? Try this little trick:  Bring your fist up to your eye, look through that small hole and focus o the fine print. The small channel of light entering your eye clears yor vision.

Where's That Lovely Smell Coming From? Special guest coming? Dab incandescent lightbulbs with peppermint oil. The scent will be "activated" when the lights are turned on, warming the oil and adding a fresh, impossible to find, scent. Make sure that the buils are off and colde before adding the oil. Great during holidays!

SAVING THEM COINS AND SUCH

NEW CREDIT CARD SCAM: Here's how it works. You receive a phone call from someone who claims to work in your card issuer's fraud-prevention department. They read your credit card account number to you and say that suspicious transactions have been identiried on the account. You're asked to confirm various purchases. But first you have to provide the security code to prove the card i sstill in your possession.

MAKE THAT UNUSED GIFT CARD earn its keep - Put It To Work! Several brokers will buy your unused cards from bigger merchants like Macy's and Barnes & Noble--at a discount off their face value of course. Cardpool, Raise and Card Hub (search online) are among about a dozen online gift card exchangers.

It's Easy To Do:  Enter the card details online to learn what the broker will pay you for it. If the price is right, you accept the offer and send off your card. You'll get a check or Paypal credit, or some let you swap unwanted cards for others. Note:  The cards typically need to be $10 or more and they often pay 65 to 92 percent off face value.
